Our Representative Office in Ukraine was first opened in autumn 1993. Several months later, in spring 1994, Philip Morris made its first investment in Ukraine ($ 6 mio) by acquiring a 51% share of Kharkiv Tobacco Factory Joint Stock Company. Since then, the total amount of investments has reached $ 45 mio. Philip Morris now has 99.5% share of KTF. The Factory and its Sales Branch Offices, combined, now employs over 800 people, amongst which are 550 newly created jobs.

While in 1994 KTF's yearly output was 2 bio sticks, in the first half of 1998 the Factory made 5.5 bio sticks cigarettes, and this year's forecast is as high as 12 bio sticks. 65% of the Factory's output are filter cigarettes (the highest amount in the Ukrainian tobacco industry), including international brands such as Chesterfield, Bond Street, L&M and Apollo Soyuz.

KTF is the biggest taxpayer among the businesses of Kharkiv Oblast. Last year, the factory paid UAH 59.2 mio as taxes into the State and local budgets.

Apart from the local production by KTF, Philip Morris also sells its worldwide cigarettes Marlboro, Parliament and L&M in Ukraine.
