"Ukraine" University is open to applicants with a Certificate of Completed Secondary Education. Admission involves an interview and tests.

Kyiv State Administration provides Grants for disabled and disadvantaged students. The Ukrainian League of Invalids and other donors offer grants to students with disabilities at regional branches of the University. "Ukraine" University awards bursaries to medallists and winners of international school contests.

"Ukraine" University has branches throughout Ukraine: Bila Tserkva, Brovary, Dnipropetrovsk, Melitopol, Kherson, Gorlivka, Khoust, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnitskiy, Kirovograd ,Kremenchuk, Kyiv, Lutsk, Melitopol, Mycolayiv, Nova Kahovka, Poltava, Rivne, Simferopol, Shpola, Sumy, Vinnitsya, Zaporizzhia, Zhitomyr.

The mission of these branches is to meet the educational and training needs of the local people, regional industries and businesses.

"Ukraine" University is a non-governmental higher educational institution.

It was founded in 1999 with the aim of providing education and training based on modern teaching technologies and techniques, including distance learning, open to all, including disabled people and those unable to participate in full-time education, for example adults in employment, military personnel and those living in remote rural districts.

The idea was to create an educational, research and rehabilitation institution to be known as the Open International University of Human Development "Ukraine". It is the brainchild of its President, Professor Petro Talanchuk, the first Minister of Education of Independent Ukraine, a distinguished scientist and influential in Ukrainian society.

"Ukraine" University is governed by its Council of Founders.

The Council includes representatives of :
- Kyiv State Administrations
- Ukrainian League for the Disabled
- International Centre of Human Development, Kiev
- various regional charity institutions
- companies and private people.

"Ukraine" University works in close cooperation with Governmental Agencies, Universities, international organizations and individual donors ready to help in providing new educational technologies and in tackling social problems.

The principles on which the University "Ukraine" was founded are:

- Wider access to technical and humanity education at the territory level for everyone throughout Ukraine

- Adaptation of examination and study regulations to take account of the special needs of people with disabilities.

- Integration into the European and World educational community through applying the newest teaching technologies.

- The enablement of people with disabilities to compete on equal terms in the employment market and to contribute fully to Ukrainian society.

Research focuses on computer-based learning, new communication developments and interactive processes.

"Ukraine" University offers 36 degree courses as follows:

- Humanities (Social work, Psychology, Languages, Publishing and Editing);
- Law;
- International Relations ( International Information, International Economy);
- Medicine (Physical Rehabilitation)
- Economics and Business (Banking, Accounting and Auditing, Marketing, Management, Trade, Finance, Documentation and Information Management);
- Engineering (Everyday Electronic Equipment, Design, Environmental Engineering, Car engineering, Catering, Computer Systems and Networks, Software, Data Processing and Decision Making Systems Exploiting ).

University staff and students

"Ukraine" University employs about 600 full-time faculty members and 900 part-time and visiting professors.

The number of full-time and part-time students currently exceeds 16.000.
Enrolment of students has been:
1999/2000 - 1.538
2000/2001 - 3.728
2001/2002 - 5.260
2002/2003 - 5.648
(10% of them are disabled: poor eyesight, hearing problems, physical disability, long-term illnesses).

The University is setting up a Rehabilitation Centre, Career Advisory, Social Welfare, Law and other centres. Facilities are being established to enable students to have real practical experience before gaining jobs after graduation.
